The Shelby County Historical Museum is a premier place to conduct family research. We have a knowledgeable and friendly staff who cannot wait to help you with your research questions. Our comfortable reading room is a great environment to come and get some hands-on experience with your family's history. Additionally, we have a fantastic climate-controlled library that houses over 2,500 historic books!
If you are visiting the museum to complete your research, strongly recommend that you schedule an appointment in advance to ensure that we can assist you properly.
We realize that not everyone has the time to come to our facility. As such, we offer long-distance research services as well! If you have a research request, you can pay an hourly rate of $15.00/hour, to compensate for the time of our resident scholars, and trust that we will discover all we can. However, this service is also free to members! Please fill out the Research Request Form and return it to the museum through mail or email. On the form, you may indicate how much time you would like dedicated to your request. After receiving your Request Form and Research Fee, our staff will begin work on your request. We aim to have all requests completed within 1-2 weeks, however some requests may take longer. All requests will be delivered electronically unless otherwise arranged.
