Our Historical Society and Museum has been working to improve Shelby County through preserving and recording our collective history for over half a century. Supporting our organization means supporting not only the distant history of Shelby County - but the history we create every day as well.
As a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, we depend on your support to preserve and share Shelby County's storied past in a way that installs pride in our community. Click here to discover the tax benefits you'll receive with your charitable contributions.

End-of-Life Giving and Estate Gifts
We urge you to consider writing the Shelby County Historical Society into your will as a recipient of your estate, whether as a partial or sole beneficiary. In order to do this, you should speak with your attorney about creating, or altering, your estate plan.
Another option for end-of-life giving is to name us as a beneficiary in your life insurance policy. This method of giving is an excellent way to leave us a portion of your estate in secret. This type of giving is also incontestable, meaning that an aggrieved relative could not stop your contribution.
Finally, you could establish your own charitable foundation through the Iowa Community Foundations, with the direction that it should make an annual contribution to our organization. In doing this, you will ensure that our organization benefits from your philanthropy in perpetuity!
